Add the 2020 season of the Hannibal Aquatic Center to the list of things that will not take place because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Citing an abundance of caution in keeping patrons and employees safe in the midst of COVID-19, the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department announced Wednesday the Aquatic Center will not open for the 2020 season.

According to Parks and Rec’s Mary Lynne Richards, they felt they could not safely open the aquatic center this season.

Parks and Rec also announced Wednesday they are looking to reopen the ramp park at Huckleberry Park June 1st, along with allowing shelters to be reserved and reopening restrooms at Riverview Park, Central Park, Huckleberry Park and the Y-Men’s Pavilion.

However, the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center will remain closed until August 31st, and park playgrounds will remain closed indefinitely.
