If you want enjoy a day at the pool, you only have until Sunday to do so.

The Hannibal Aquatic Center closes for the season at 6 p.m. Sunday, August 17.

According to Mary Lynne Richards of the Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department, this has been a unique season for the pool. The comparative mild weather this summer, although good for a lot of outdoor activities, is not so good for the pool. When high temperatures are consistently in the 70s and 80s, crowds are not what they would normally be in July and August. And, even when crowds are down, Parks & Rec still has to keep a full staff of lifeguards on duty at all times.

Bids will soon be let on work to be done at the pool in preparation for the 2015 season, which will be the pool's 50th year of operation.
