A Hancock County man made his first court appearance Tuesday on first degree murder charges.

36 year old Andrew DeHaven is charged with three counts of first degree murder in the death of his father, 67 year old Michael DeHaven.

According to Hancock County Sheriff Scott Bentzinger, Andrew DeHaven went to a neighbor’s house in Pontoosuc about 8:30 a.m. Sunday and asked them to call 911 because he had killed his father.

When authorities arrived, Andrew DeHaven surrendered.

According to charging documents filed by Hancock County State’s Attorney Rachel Mast, Andrew DeHaven struck his father multiple times in the head with a hammer.

A motive for the murder is not yet known.
