Thousands of people are expected to head for Hannibal for a couple of major events this weekend.

The second Big River Comic Convention convenes Friday afternoon at the Tabernacle Rec Center.

The doors open Friday at 3, with activities until 9, then things run Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

One bit of bad news for the Comic Convention, local officials learned Thursday that, due to an unforeseen situation, celebrity guest Lisa Loring, who was scheduled to appear Saturday, will not be coming.

Also getting underway Friday is the Great Girlfriend Getaway in the downtown area, with events and bargains in many of the downtown businesses through Sunday.

This is the weekend for Hannibal High School’s spring musical production.

HHS presents “Freaky Friday” at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday in the high school auditorium.

Capacity for each performances is about 400. Tickets are ten dollars each and are available in the high school office during regular business hours.

A recorded content streaming ticket is also available, which will get you a recorded performance of the show at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 2nd. Streaming tickets are available at showtix4u.com.
