Operation Livesaver and law enforcement agencies across Missouri plan a variety of events and extra enforcement around railroad grade crossings this week.
Grade crossing collisions kill or injure an average of 45 people each year in Missouri. Events include a positive enforcement program in Vandalia with assistance from Kansas City Southern Railroad Police. Authorities will be handing out safety materials to motorists and pedestrians and enforcing crossing and trespass laws. Officers will also be riding in locomotives in several areas to watch for violations at grade crossings.
