A major Hannibal manufacturer is expanding production of one of its best known products next year.

General Mills announces that it will add a third production line at its Hannibal facility for its Progresso Soup brand.

The local expansion, coupled with the closing of General Mills’ Vineland, New Jersey plant, will result in Hannibal becoming the company’s only producer of Progresso Soup.

Local construction begins next summer, with the new soup line in place by next fall.

More jobs will be created at General Mills with the expansion, but local officials weren’t sure yet exactly how many additional jobs would be created.

The Hannibal General Mills facility currently employs between 900 and 1,000 people.
