Fatal Motorcycle Accident on Route O Claims Life of Hannibal Man, Injures Passenger
A Hannibal man has died following a motorcycle accident just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by 43-year-old Alphonse A. Berghager of Hannibal was travelling southbound on Route O when it failed to negotiate a corner, ran off the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting both Berghager and a 15-year-old passenger.
Berghager was pronounced dead at the scene by Ralls County Coroner Denise Goodwin. The 15-year-old passenger was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital with moderate injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that this incident is the 20th fatality accident in 2013 for the Troop B Region, which serves Adair, Chariton, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Linn, Macon, Marion, Monroe, Putnam, Ralls, Randolph, Schuyler, Scotland, Shelby, and Sullivan counties.
