More information has come to light in the shooting of a nine year old boy in Kirksville Thursday night.

Kirksville Police were called to a report of a shooting about 10 a.m. Thursday.

First responders found nine year old Keegan Hoover with a gunshot wound to the face.

Hoover’s uncle, 25 year old Zachary Stephens, also of Kirksville, was taken into custody when his and the victim’s account of what happened didn’t match.

Hoover was flown to a hospital in Columbia for treatment. His condition is not known.

Stephens was formally charged Friday with abuse or neglect of a child, first degree endangering the welfare of a child and second degree domestic assault.

Stephens is being held without bond in the Adair County Jail.
