Hannibal’s outgoing school superintendent is the 2014 recipient of the Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce’s most prestigious award.

At its annual meeting Saturday night, Dr. Jill Janes was selected to receive this year’s Pacesetter Award. The award is given to an individual to recognize outstanding leadership in the Hannibal community.

Janes says she’s always looked for ways to help this community she’s been a part of for so long.

The Community Betterment Award went to the city of Hannibal and the Board of Public Works.

The BPW was recognized for its work in May when a wind storm knocked out power to 90 percent of the city.

Other awards handed out Saturday night included the New Business of the Year, which went to Glick’s. F&M Bank got the Civic Contributor Award for its role in serving as trustee for the Riedel Foundation. Retiring chamber president Debbie Cattlett gave President’s awards to Mary Gibbons for her work on behalf of the chamber, and to Townsquare Media for its help in publicizing chamber events.
