Coroner: Teen Whose Charred Body Found Died of Drug Overdose

Authorities in northern Illinois say a 15-year-old girl whose charred remains were found outside a mobile home died of a drug overdose.

Stephenson County Coroner Tom Leamon said Wednesday that Andreayah McBain had morphine, Xanax and a third antidepressant drug in her system. The coroner says the cause of her death was "a bunch of the drugs mixed together." A McBain family spokesman had no comment and said relatives are awaiting more information.

Rockford police say they plan to review the new information and consult with Winnebago County prosecutors about next steps in the case, including whether to pursue charges against any suspects.

The girl's remains were found in October west of the Seward Forest Preserve in a rural area of Stephenson County.
