Community Says Farewell to Ed Foxall, Who is Retiring From Radio After 45 Years [Video]

Retiring General Manager of KHMO, KICK-FM, Y101 and WLIQ, Ed Foxall, was honored Friday during an open house and reception at the KHMO studios in downtown Hannibal. Foxall has been with KHMO for 45 years, and has been General Manager since the 1980s.

"I started on my birthday, as a matter of fact, 45 years ago," said Foxall during an interview with News Director Harold Smith. "I'm going to miss it a lot. All the things we have fun with, that we've done at the radio stations... it has to be a fun thing, and it has been through the years."

Foxall's has spent his entire 45-year radio career based in the offices of KHMO at 119 North Third in Hannibal. He took his first job as a sales representative with the station after coming home from two years in the army. "Back in the 8th grade we visited a radio station on a field trip and I kind of liked what I saw... Then I went to Europe and spent a couple years, came back and I knew that the radio station was looking for a sales representative and I thought 'that sounds kind of interesting,' so I applied, got the position, and here we are, 45 years later."

"It's been a good run and I have been blessed to have met some of the neatest people in the whole wide world. Not just staff members, I'm talking about people in the community of Hannibal and Quincy and northeast Missouri and west central Illinois. I've met a great many people working the Bids for Bargains radio auction. It's just a wonderful community to live in."

"I'd just like to say a big thank you to all of our folks that listen, all of our team members, every one is special and unique. As I ride off into the sunset, I just wish each one of you folks just all the best in the whole wide world."

Ed Foxall's last day will be May 14. He will be succeeded as General Manager of KHMO, KICK-FM, Y101 and WLIQ  by Dave Greene of St. Louis.
