(QUINCY)—Significant changes are coming in Illinois for people who hold disabled license plates and parking placards. Bill Bogdan is Disability Liason for the Illinois Secretary of State’s office says two bills passed last year in the General Assembly including a measure to sharply increase the penalty for using a deceased person's  disability placard to make that a Class A Misdemeanor punishable with a 25-hundred dollar fine.

The parking meter exemption will be curtailed as placards are renewed. Only those persons not capable of putting money into parking meters will get placards exempting them from parking meter fees.

All permanent Illinois disabled placards must be renewed by the end of the year. Out of state vehicles are no longer exempt from the parking meter fees as the change in the law takes effect.
