Missouri Department of Transportation officials say the news is mixed on bridges on state highways in northeast Missouri.
MODOT says fewer bridges are in poor condition thanks to bridge replacement projects. On the list for replacement this year are two bridges on Missouri 16 in Lewis County and two bridges on Missouri 79 in Pike County. An additional 39 replacement projects are planned over the next four years. MODOT says an average of ten bridges per year in northeast Missouri deteriorate into poor condition each year and 63 bridges have graded in poor condition for five years or more.

Bridge maintenance is a never ending project. MODOT’s maintenance efforts place a priority on flushing and sealing bridge decks and maintaining expansion joints to help extend bridge life.
