October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month nationally. Various events are going on in the Quincy and Hannibal area specifically aimed at helping the cause. Here is a list of some of the those. We will continue adding new things as they become available.

Thursday, October 1 - Quincy Firefighters T-shirt Sale

The Quincy firefighters will be selling commemorative t-shirts with proceeds going to the Blessing Cancer Center. Between 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. people are encouraged to simply drive up to the front of the Central Fire Station at 906 Vermont, and buy a shirt from their car, as firefighters will be outdoors selling them. Shirts are available in all sizes. The art work on the shirts was done by Quincy fire fighter Mike Dade.

Friday, October 2 - James E. Cary Cancer Center Pinkie Pals Pizza and Pajama Party

This event will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at JECCC in Hannibal. All breast cancer survivors are invited to enjoy a fun evening of companionship, makeovers, pizza, crafts, yoga, games and more.

Pinkie Pals is a breast cancer support group, open to anyone dealing with, or who has recovered from breast cancer. Reservations for the pajama party are not required and there is no charge to attend. More details are available online.

Saturday, October 10 - Breast Cancer Fundraiser at Great River Road Harley- Davidson

From 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. there will be a Breast Cancer Fundraiser Tent Event at Great River Road Harley-Davidson in Quincy. It will include a swap meet for $10 a table, photo scavenger hunt and food. A portion of the proceeds will go to Blessing Breast Center Financial Assistance Program.

Saturday, October 10 - Puttin' For Pink Bar Golf Tournament

Puttin' For Pink will be a bar golf tournament that includes nine bars and nine miniature golf holes. You can sign up in advance at Jed's Brewhouse on Friday, October 9 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., and also at State Street Bar and Grill on Saturday, October 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Teams will be made up of four people and the cost is $10 per person. Players must be present at South Side Boat Club at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday for prizes. The event is in memory of Amy Reichert, and proceeds will go to Blessing Breast Center. Monday, October 19 - Culver-Stockton Women's Soccer

For the fifth straight year, the Culver-Stockton College women's soccer teams will be raising funds for local people battling cancer. In previous years Culver-Stockton Women's Soccer has raised over $3,500.

On Monday, October 19, the Wildcat soccer team will host their "Kick it to Cancer" games against Mount Mercy University at NX Level filed. Admission to the game is simply a donation of any amount or fans could go online and donate to the cause.

Saturday, October 24 - Big Pink Volleyball Tournament at the KROC Center

The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. This double elimination tournament costs only $10 per team of six to enter. Registrations are due by October 16. Registration forms are available at the Kroc Center. A t-shirt is included with the registration fee. All proceeds benefit the Blessing Hospital Foundations Breast Center Fund. Members and non-members are encouraged to participate. Call 217-231-5635 for more information.
