Bobby, Jimmy & Forgottonia Featured in Bluff City 2022 Season

Live professional theater in America's Hometown is back for 2022.

As the pandemic (fingers crossed) winds down this spring and summer, Bluff City Theater has announced its schedule of live shows for the '22 season.

The first thing to note is that two of this year's productions will be absolutely free. Also, as they did last year, one of this season's production will be staged in Central Park while another will also hit the road with performances at area schools.

The season begins April 7-13 with Kennedy: Bobby's Last Crusade. It portrays the Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and Presidential candidate on the day of his assassination in 1968. Hannibal's own Clark Cruikshank will direct this production, which will take the stage at 212 Broadway, then move to area schools for four performances.

A musical that was to have debuted in 2020 finally hits the stage, or rather the bandstand in Central Park. Colin Healy, who wrote the highly successful musical Madam-The Musical, has done it again. This new production, Forgottonia, tells the true story of the tongue-in-cheek effort in the 1970s of 16 western Illinois counties to declare their independence. The dates for Forgottonia are May 11-21.

The Bluff City Theater season wraps up with The Tunesmith, featuring the music of perhaps the best-known songwriter you've never heard of. This show features the music of Jimmy Webb, who wrote hits like "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" for Glen Campbell, "Up, Up and Away" for the Fifth Dimension, and "MacArthur Park" for Richard Harris.

The Tunesmith runs June 16-25 at the theater, with tickets costing $25 each.
