Bipartisan bills have been filed in both houses of the Illinois General Assembly to fund new construction at the Illinois Veterans’ Home.

Republican State Representative David McSweeney of Barrington Hills and Democratic Senator Tom Cullerton of Villa Park have introduced bills calling for the construction of one or more new buildings at the home.

The bills are not specific about a dollar amount for construction, but would rely at least in part on money from the Illinois Capital Development Fund.

McSweeney believes the federal government should also get involved, calling on Governor Bruce Rauner to reach out to President Trump and Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin.
