Bald eagles are a common sight overhead along the Mississippi River at this time of the year. It’s not unusual to look into the skies over Hannibal or Quincy and see an eagle or two. You can learn more about these birds next weekend at Bald Eagle Days in Clarksville. Kathi Moore is with the Missouri Department of Conservation says there will be a series of live eagle presentations at the Apple Shed in Clarksville starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Eagle Days at Clarksville started in 1979. Eagles were rare then. Preservation efforts over the decades have greatly increased their numbers. Moore says the winter eagle count in Missouri in 2012 was 2661 eagles statewide.
