A statewide search for a Christmas tree for the Missouri Governor’s Mansion resulted in a tree owned by a Canton family being tapped for the honor.

Each year, the Missouri Department of Conservation looks for an ideal evergreen tree to be decorated and put on display during the holiday season at the Governor’s Mansion in Jefferson City.

This year’s tree was originally planted in 1997 on a farm owned by Angela Schaller on Highway 81 in Canton.

The tree was cut down Tuesday morning for transport to Jefferson City. The official lighting of the tree will be December 1st.
