No state has gained a reputation for having residents leave more than Illinois has for the past few years. Now, it appears we know where all of the fleeing Illinoisans are going.
I was under the impression that Florida was one of the top destinations for people fleeing other states. Apparently, I had that backwards as there is new evidence showing that there is currently an exodus happening from the Sunshine State and many are heading directly toward Illinois.
I will admit that I did a double take when I first heard this, but verified that it's true. A Missouri boy really was just bitten by a shark. Yes, a shark, but there's some good news and a common sense explanation.
More than 10,000 Wisconsin residents move to Florida every single year. That means more than 10,000 Wisconsin people are in for a big culture shock once they land in the land of sunshine and oranges.
Even with my admittedly feeble understanding of geography, I'm pretty sure this isn't accurate. The fastest-growing brand in Missouri is reportedly a steakhouse from Florida. How is that even possible?
I have fully accepted that I was not born to understand everything, but I'm mystified about why there is a provable trend of people fleeing Florida for rural Missouri. There's real science and data to prove this is happening.
I understand why so many people think they need to move to Florida, but I'm shocked that so many in Missouri actually did it. The numbers show more than 10,000 in just one year chose to depart Missouri and head to the Sunshine State which begs the question why.
I understand that many people over the past few years have decided that Illinois is not their cup of tea. I get it. However, I am in a state of shock at the state that they leave the Land of Lincoln for the most. In just one year, more than 35,000 Illinoisans decided to depart for the wackiest state in America.
