Officers of the Hannibal Police Department responded to a shots fired call shortly before 9:30 pm on Monday, August 8, near the 400 block of N Main St. Officers were unable to located anyone involved upon their arrival.

Witnesses stated seeing two males involved in an argument. According to the witness, one male fled on foot and the other got into a vehicle with a female and left the scene. Officers obtained a vehicle description and located the two subjects at a local campground.

The two reported that another male had approached them in an alley and demanded their money at gunpoint. The male victim retrieved his concealed pistol and fired a shot in the air and a second as the suspect fled.

Officers located the suspect, Kurt D McSpadden of Indiana, hiding on Bridge Street behind trees. His gun was revealed to be a spraypainted BB gun. McSpadded admitted to the attempted robbery as he is on route to Colorado from Indiana. He also admitted to stealing a vehicle in Indiana after his recent release from prison. Said vehicle was recovered in the 200 block of North 3rd St.

McSpadden was arrested for armed robbery, armed criminal action, tampering 1st degree, and interfering with arrest. He was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail pending warrants.
