The Illinois State Police has released more information about the shots fired report on Interstate 172 Wednesday afternoon.

State Troopers and Adams County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of shots fired in a field just west of milepost 8 on I-172 about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday.

A male driver told officers he had been shot by unknown occupants of an ATV.

An investigation revealed the man had not been shot, but his vehicle appeared to have bullet holes in the windshield.

Officers determined the driver had fired the shots from inside the vehicle.

The man, identified as a 37 year old male from Monroe City, was taken to Blessing Hospital for evaluation.

Police submitted their report to the Adams County State’s Attorney for review.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
