A national retailer that has been a presence in the area for decades is going out of business.

Officials with Shopko announced Monday that they will begin what they call an orderly wind-down of its retail operations this week.

Shopko Stores, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. They said at the time that they hoped to be able to continue with a smaller and more focused store footprint.

Shopko announced today that they had been unable to find a buyer for their business, so liquidation operations will take place over the ten to twelve weeks.

The closing affects 360 stores in 26 states in the Midwest, the west and the Pacific Northwest.

Among the stores that will be closing are the Shopko’s in Quincy and Jacksonville, Illinois.
