Sampley Found Unfit to Stand Trial for Strangulation Death
A Pittsfield man has been found unfit to stand trial on charges in connection with the death of a Pittsfield woman earlier this month.
At a mental fitness hearing Monday in Pike County Circuit Court, a psychiatrist who had evaluated 63 year old David Sampley, testified that Sampley was unfit to stand trial at this time.
Sampley will be remanded to an Illinois Department of Human Services facility until he is found fit to stand trial.
Sampley is charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated criminal sexual assault and domestic battery in connection with the strangulation death of 61 year old Sharon Welch on June 4th.
