Quincy Police Warns of Publishers Clearinghouse Scam
Quincy Police are getting the word out about the latest telephone scams making the rounds.
According to QPD Detective Adam Gibson, the department has received several complaints of people falling victim to what is known as the Publishers Clearinghouse or lottery telephone scam.
In this latest scam, the victim gets a call from a number with an 876 prefix from Jamaica. They tell the victim they have won money and a new car and convince the victim to send money to cover fees or taxes by way of Walmart money transfer or by sending cash or cashier’s checks by mail.
Quincy Police reminds you that if an unsolicited caller asks you to pay prize fees by sending gift cards, it is probably a scam, and to never send cash in the mail.
If you have questions about the scam, call Detective Gibson at 217-592-3604.
