A Quincy man pleads guilty and is sentenced for his role in an attempted escape from the Adams County Jail.

As part of a plea deal Wednesday, 29 year old Jeffrey Schmidt pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage to state supported property, and was immediately sentenced to one year in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Schmidt and four others are alleged to have dug and scraped mortar and removed bricks from a wall in the jail in early May.

Schmidt is already serving a nine year sentence in DOC after pleading guilty to a separate home invasion charge.

Of the four others charged in the attempted escape, three are awaiting trial and one pleaded guilty and is serving time in prison.
