The Quincy City Council Monday night agreed to an update in equipment for the Quincy Fire Department.

The council agreed to purchase 38 new self-contained breathing units for the department, replacing units that were about a year-and-a-half away from being taken out of service.

The units are back packs that provide oxygen to firefighters while they fight fires. The updated equipment also includes a thermal imaging device.

The total cost of the units is nearly $275,000, 90 percent of which will be covered by an Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
