The Quincy City Council discussed reducing the size of the council Monday night.

There was a first reading of two ordinances, one that would reduce the size of the council from 14 to eight, and another that would make elections for city offices non-partisan.

There will be two more readings of the ordinances. If they pass, the proposals would go to the voters for approval in November.

The council also approved spending $850,000 for drainage, curb and gutter and street resurfacing work in the North 16th and North 17th Street areas.
