Peoria Woman Gets 10 Years for Nursing Home Fire
A Peoria woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for setting a fire at her nursing home after pleading guilty against her attorney's advice.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports a Peoria County judge accepted the plea from 54-year-old Sheree Dunn after lengthy questioning and sentenced her for aggravated arson in 2012. She could get out of prison in about 6 ½ years.
Dunn's attorney tells the judge Dunn was recently found fit to stand trial but could explore pleas of guilty but mentally ill or not guilty by reason of insanity.
Dunn says she didn't want to look into those defenses because she wasn't insane. She says she is "an honest woman" and wants to get on with her life.
