New Playground Planned For Slain Ferguson Girl’s School
The memory of a 9-year-old Ferguson girl shot and killed while doing homework last month will live on through a new playground planned for her former school.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports The Crossing church in Chesterfield is paying for the playground to be built at Koch Elementary in the Riverview Gardens School District.
Jamyla Bolden's classmates wanted the playground to be in Bolden's favorite colors — purple, pink and lime green.
One of the church's pastors, Anthony Meyer, says the church had been working with the school to build a playground and help with tutoring and mentoring programs before Bolden's death.
Bolden was doing homework on her mother's bed when someone fired shots into their Ferguson home.
A 21-year-old O'Fallon, Missouri, man is charged in the shooting.
