Motion to Hire DNA Expert in McKenzie Murder Case Denied
A motion to hire a DNA expert to help in the defense of a Quincy man charged in the beating death of another Quincy man was denied Wednesday.
Attorneys for 30 year old Derek McKenzie wanted the DNA evidence reviewed at a cost of about $4,500.
Judge Debra Wellborn denied the motion, adding that the defense could ask Wellborn to reconsider the motion, or could ask the public defender’s office to cover the cost.
McKenzie is charged with beating 48 year old Bill Graham with his fists and a metal clamp in an apartment above Izzey’s Bar and Grill on North 5th Street in Quincy on December 7th, 2015.
