(QUINCY)—As of Monday afternoon, the Mill Creek Water district east of Quincy is asking for voluntary water conservation until further notice.

Mill Creek Water officials hope that voluntary conservation can help avoid mandatory water rationing if the drought and heat continue through the summer.

Over the past six weeks, Mill Creek Water District officials say customers have exceeded the highest daily usage by 15 percent.
