Lawsuit: Police Used Excessive Force in Fatal Shooting

A federal lawsuit alleges that Kansas City police used excessive force in the death of a 38-year-old man.

The Kansas City Star reports that the wrongful death lawsuit was filed Thursday on behalf of the father of Todd Weber. He was killed in January 2013 after a 90-minute pursuit that began when a search of his truck's Kansas tags revealed an outstanding warrant. When the pursuit reached Interstate 435, Weber got out of the truck holding a gun to his head and eventually pointed the weapon at officers.

The lawsuit says officers fired dozens of gunshots at Weber, who is white.

Police Chief Darryl Forté and four officers are named as defendants. The suit seeks unspecified damages. Police didn't immediately return an email from The Associated Press seeking comment.
