What's the Difference Between an Urban Legend and a Haunted Story?

For those that don't know, there is a major difference between what qualifies as an urban legend, and what qualifies as a haunted story. Truthfully, it all boils down to proof.

While many urban legends do involve ghosts and haunted spirits, what they usually don't include is photographic, historical, or personal proof. Urban legends are typically weird tales spread by word of mouth that lack any concrete evidence.

Legends say a little girl around 6-8 years old with long, light brown hair and wearing a dress with stockings and boots have been roaming the streets of Rockford for over 100 years. It is said she can be spotted the most around Samuelson Rd. and 6th Street skipping along the street picking wildflowers.

(This tale used to really weird me out when I was younger, because I spent a lot of time at a barn that was on Kennedy Hill Road.) The legend says a ghostly woman has often been spotted at night walking along Kennedy Hill Road going towards Byron. Some accounts say the woman is only wearing underwear, while others say she is in a white gown...either way, it creeps me out.
