Strong Earthquake Near Salina, Kansas Felt By More than 100

There's been a strong earthquake with an epicenter near Salina, Kansas Friday night which has already been reported by more than 100 throughout the central part of the state.

According to the USGS, this strong quake happened at 6:18pm Central Time just north of Salina, Kansas. The confirmed magnitude reviewed by seismologists is 4.0 on the Richter Scale.

KWCH is reporting that many Kansas residents reported items falling from shelves. Volcano Discovery says that this was a shallow quake with a depth of just 3.1 miles which was why this quake was felt stronger than others.

The USGS says that 108 have reported feeling it with reports from as far away as the Wichita area. The yellow squares on the map are where residents reported a strong shaking.

A quake 4.0 or larger is capable of producing minor damage, but I haven't seen any reports of any in Kansas as of this writing. This story will be updated if that changes as reports continue to come in of this much larger than normal Kansas shaker.
