Missouri Distribution Center Closing, 79 Jobs Gone in September

There's bad news on the employment front for a mid-Missouri business that has announced they will be shutting their doors in September which means 79 will lose their jobs.

I saw multiple news outlets including the St. Louis Business Journal and KRCG reporting that Soft Surroundings Distribution Center in Mexico, Missouri has given notice that they will be closing the facility in September. They say that the layoffs will begin September 1 and continue through the middle of the month with a total of 79 jobs being lost.

Soft Surroundings retail locations offer women's clothing, shoes and jewelry. Their website store locator map shows locations in Richmond Heights and Kansas City, Missouri with 2 locations in the Chicago area also. There are no reports that I can find of any retail locations closing at this time.

The KRCG report states that employees were given 60 days notice prior to the expected layoff dates in September.

Here's hoping the 79 employees affected by this layoff land on their feet and find new employment soon.
