As of this writing, it's early March of 2024 in Illinois. I want you to save this date because someday you will look back and say "he told us so" when Illinois bans a lawnmower forever. It's not a question of if, but when.

I don't get involved in political matters and I realize that some will want to turn this into a political discussion. If that floats your boat, go ahead. All I know is that there is a movement that I just know Illinois will eventually jump onboard for and it involves lawnmowers. Mark my words now.

Here's a general rule of thumb: If California does something, Illinois will do the same thing months if not years later. It's like follow the leader (blind leading the blind?) of states. In this case, it's something California is doing regarding lawn mowers. Carbon Credits says the Californians are banning the sale of gas-powered lawn mowers. Carbon emissions they say are the problem and banning them is the solution.

In defense of California (something I will rarely say), other states are attempting the ban of gas-powered lawnmowers, too. Minnesota is reportedly trying it also.

This is all fine and good. I suppose I should just go along with the times and hug an electric socket, but I fear that someone hasn't fully thought this through. Anyone remember what happened to electric-only cars during the bitter cold of last winter? All I can ask Illinois is that if you ban gas-powered lawn equipment, make sure the replacement technology is always working, okay?
