The 1-1 Hannibal Pirates, coming off a confidence building win on the road last week 57-8 over Lutheran St. Charles head to Troy Mo. this week against the Troy Buchanan Trojans.

Troy Buchanan comes in at 2-0 following dominant wins over Ladue 48-20 and O’Fallon (IL) 55-20.

The Trojans will be looking to continue steamrolling opponents as the Pirates dock in Troy Friday evening. With a win over Hannibal, Troy would grab statewide attention and more than likely a state ranking. With a win in Troy the Pirates will take a big step towards the season they have already mapped out.

These two teams are similar in style, with multiple offensive threats out of the backfield. They have split there last two games against each other and both have been entertaining. Troy Buchanan is a team that wants to run first, second and third so that will be job one for Hannibal, control the line of scrimmage.

That’s where this game will be won. Control the line, control the game. Manage the clock, methodically drive down the field with Waylon Anders, Mike Ferriera, Derrion Washington and Hannibal’s running depth.

The Trojan defense has some dynamic athletes in Chris Wenger, Anthony Solari, Talan Rowland and Xzavion Amman at linebacker and in the defensive backfield who play both ways along with Defensive lineman Mark Beckwith.

On offense Troy will lean on their skill players in Jr.-QB Hunter Humphrey, and Jr.-RB Carter Dowell. They also have some skill depth and will play patiently waiting for a big play opportunity.

Ironically, with both defenses keying on the run it may be the passing game that makes the difference. Whichever team can keep the other honest with some completions that move the chains and prevent their opponent from jamming the line, could very well provide the deciding factor for proves to be a fun match up.
