The best of the best area high school basketball players competed Saturday in Quincy.  The McDonalds/ Herald-Whig All Star Basketball Classic ended up with a sweep for Illinois. The Illinois girls team defeated Missouri girls 77 to 39.  The boys matchup saw Missouri pull to within 5 points in the second half, but the final ended up Illinois 99  Missouri 81.

The Boys Outstanding Player Award goes to Michael Mast from Liberty, Illinois. Gabe McKenzie of Canton received the Missouri award. The Girls Outstanding Players were Michaela Gronewold from Illini West and Randi Slaughter from Scotland County.

Prospect League Baseball:

The Hannibal Cavemen lose to the Springfield Sliders at Clemens Field Saturday by a score of 7 to 2. The Cavemen travel to Springfield Sunday.

Quincy Gems lose to Terre Haute 2 to 0.  The Gems host the Rex Sunday evening.

Major League Baseball:

In the city of Brotherly Love, the Cardinals showed no mercy to the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday.  The Cardinals Randal Grichuk homered twice as the Cards blasted the Phils 10 to 1.  Cards Pitcher John Lackey picked up his first win on the road.  The Cards play the Phillies Sunday afternoon on KHMO.
