Over ten tons of carrots is headed to the Salvation Army.

Officials with Hy-Vee announced Saturday they have partnered with it produce supplier, Grimmway Farms, to donate more than 36,000 whole carrots to the Salvation Army in Quincy.

The donation of over 21,000 pounds of carrots comes as food banks across Illinois struggle to keep their shelves stocked with fresh produce due to increased demand as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The local donation is part of a series of donations by Hy-Vee and its suppliers to local communities and food banks in Hy-Vee’s service region.
