Hannibal Regional Hospital Auxiliary recently recognized Claudia Lennon for Outstanding Contribution to a New Program. This year was the first time the Auxiliary has presented this recognition to a volunteer. Claudia was responsible for starting the Hope Gifts program at James E. Cary Cancer Center. The Hope Gifts are presented to patients at JECCC and include a lunch size cooler, tooth brush, lotion, lip balm, sanitizer, gum, mints, puzzle books, prayer card, magnet with important numbers, and information on the Patient Navigator. The items in the Hope Gifts are simple, everyday items, but to the patients at JECCC it serves as a reminder that people care and are there to support them through their cancer journey.

“When Claudia proposed this idea and said her King’s Daughters group was willing to help, we were very excited. Hannibal Regional Hospital Foundation also stepped up to the help with this idea” notes Bob Hess, Director at JECCC. “The care packages are just one example of the great community support we receive at JECCC. The cooler the patients receive have essentials which help them through their cancer journey.”
