Missouri & Illinois Could See Up to 5 Inches of Rain This Week?
You might want to locate your umbrella. There's no certainty at this point, but it looks like both Missouri and Illinois are going to see a lot of rain this week. If some computer models are accurate, some places could get drenched with up to 5 inches of rain between now and Friday.
My wife (the professional weather nerd) mentioned that NOAA's Weather Prediction Center was talking about a lot of rain over the next few days in most of Missouri and Illinois. When I made the mistake of asking how much, she directed me to this map they shared. That big red splotch is the area that could see up to 5 inches of rain.
If you look at their hazard map for this week, it looks like Tuesday, August 13 and Wednesday, August 14 are the most likely days for heavy rain.
It's important to note that there is some uncertainty as not all models agree. On one hand, the ECMWF model that Pivotal Weather does not show big rainfall amounts.
However, the GFS computer model does show some places in Missouri getting up to 5 1/2 inches of rain.
The bottom line is to expect plenty of rain in both Missouri and Illinois this week. Whether it's enough to cause flooding issues remains to be seen. Just know that big rainfall totals are a possibility.
