Residents of Hannibal’s 4th Ward have an opportunity to serve in city government.

4th Ward citizens are invited to submit a letter of interest to the City Clerk regarding the vacant 4th Ward Council seat.  Letters must be received by 10 a.m. December 2nd and envelopes should state name and address of the Respondent and the words Request for Interest FOURTH WARD COUNCIL MEMBER”.

Minimum requirements are: At least 25 years old, citizen of U.S. and registered to vote in the City.  Must have been an inhabitant of Hannibal at least one year, and a resident of the 4th Ward for at least 6 months preceding.  Council members cannot hold any other compensated public office or position in City government while serving on the Council.  No person shall be entitled to hold a city office who is in arrears for any City taxes.

The council will interview qualified candidates during the December 16th meeting. The person selected will serve until the next municipal election in April, 2015. Attendance of bi-weekly council meetings is required and the compensation is $200 per month.

The 4th Ward includes the South Side as well as a portion of the downtown and Lindell Avenue areas.
