The social services arm of the Hannibal Salvation Army will be moving downtown in the coming months.

Officials with the Salvation Army announced Monday the purchase of property at 1011 Church Street, next to the Hannibal Nutrition Center, to house its social services division.

The building is unoccupied, most recently housing Wamsley Disposal.
Officials say the building needs major renovation, and it will be several months before social services to move to the new facility.

The Hannibal Salvation Army has handled its social services at its Family Store in the Huck Finn Shopping Center for several years.

Officials felt that a separate office for social services would be better for the privacy of its clients.

Along with social services, the new center will house a food pantry, with space for Bible study groups and other services.
