Gordon Ipson says involvement in city government means making tough choices at times. Ipson was selected as Hannibal’s newest council member Tuesday evening.

Just minutes after taking the oath of office, Ipson had to place a crucial vote.  He voted in favor of the $5.4 million Riverfront Renovation Plan. The proposal passed by a vote of 4 to 2. Also voting in favor were councilmen Kevin Knickerbocker, Mike Dobson, and Mayor James Hark.  Councilmen Kevin Lionberger and Jim Van Hoose voted against the plan.

Ipson was one of five candidates seeking to fill the vacant 5th Ward council seat in Hannibal.  The vote to appoint him was unanimous.

Ipson’s background includes extensive experience in business and economic development.  He recently retired from his position as economic development program leader at Northeast Power in Palmyra.
