The council approved applying for a Missouri Department of Natural Resources storm sewer assessment grant through the Mark Twain Regional Council of Governments.

The city is applying for the maximum grant amount of $50,000, which should cover the majority of the costs involved.

The storm sewers on the south side have been a concern since two people were hurt when a sewer collapsed on Union Street, causing the sidewalk above it to collapse.

The city has applied for $750,000 in emergency grant funding to repair the Union Street storm sewer.
