Water rates for Hannibal BPW customers are going up starting next week.

The Board of Public Works Board of Directors voted unanimously last week to raise its water rates by about three-and-a-half percent, starting July 2nd.

BPW’s plan is to raise water rates 3.5% each July and 7.5% each January over the next five years.

The utility’s five-year rate plan will cover capital improvements to the water treatment plant, the loss of a large wholesale customer and general inflation.

The average BPW customer will see an increase in their bill of about $1.43 per month.

There will be no increases in BPW’s sewer rates.
