Hannibal Board of Public Works personnel are on standby, waiting for the word to head for the Carolinas to help restore power in the wake of Hurricane Florence.

According to BPW General Manager Heath Hall, he volunteered local crews Tuesday to help if needed.

If they get the call, four linemen, a supervisor, two bucket trucks and a half-ton pickup stand ready to head east.

BPW crews have helped with storm recovery before. They sent help to Florida and the Virgin Islands last year and helped restore power after Hurricanes Matthew in 2016, Sandy in 2012, Ike in 2008 and Katrina in 2005.
