The Hannibal Board of Public Works has released the results of a recently completed forensic analysis of its financial transactions.

The analysis came after BPW management became aware last summer of a potential misuse of utility funds.

The audit focused on expenditures over a five-and-a-half year span and the use of BPW credit cards.

The analysis found a little over $12,000 of potentially improper personal spending on the credit cards. All but about $900 of that total involved personnel no longer employed by BPW.

It was determined that the total personal spending by current employees was accidental. There was no evidence to suggest deliberately inappropriate spending by current BPW employees.

Disciplinary actions have been taken against those employees.
Since last summer, changes have been put in place to better keep track of credit card usage by employees.
