The National Weather Service confirms that it was an EF-1 tornado that caused considerable damage and injured at least one in Shelby County Monday night.

Weather services observers say a tornado touched down near Clarence around 9:40 p.m. Monday, with top winds reaching up to 100 miles per hour.

A number of homes and buildings were damaged by the storm. The press box and scoreboard at South Shelby High School in Shelbina were destroyed, with shingles blown off the roof of the school.

Tornadoes were also reported Monday night near Maywood in Lewis County and near Palmyra in Marion County.
