The Hannibal City Council has approved Tuesday, April 5 as the date voters will decide races for mayor and Second and Fourth Ward council seats. Fifth Ward councilman James Hark has announced his intention to run for mayor. He seeks to follow in his father’s footsteps, current Mayor Roy Hark.

In other business, the council approved renewing a contract with US Cellular for wireless services and equipment at a rate of $24 per line for non-smart phones and $34.50 for smart phones. According to a memo from City Clerk Angel Vance, the new 2-year contract will save approximately $150 per month compared to the prior contract.

First Reading was given to a bill combining two city positions after a resignation. City Manager Jeff LaGarce told the council the change would eliminate the Street Department Secretary and add those duties to the DPW Management Assistant position, saving over $50,000 annually.

Several events requiring street closures in the downtown area received approval:
Christmas Parade scheduled Saturday, Dec. 5.
Babies in Toyland Parade on Saturday, Dec. 12.
Marion County Relay for Life scheduled June 3, 2016.
